One of the central characters of the de Stijl artistic movement, architect and furniture designer Gerrit Thomas Rietveld is most renowned for creating the original Red and Blue Chair early in his career. Rietveld went on to design iconic buildings such as the Schröder House in Utrecht and exhibit at the Bauhaus after receiving a personal invitation from its founder Walter Gropius.
